What exactly is good about China?
As I’ve gained a more detailed picture of China it seems like there’s much less to like than I’d first started reading about it in ernest. The picture I’m reluctantly getting, both from Redit and from friends who have lived there, is that on top of it being in many ways, well, a second world shithole with lacking medical and sanitation standards, with a culture engineered to find the previous points acceptable, to give rise to myriad kinda of rude behavior, to normalize cottling, which encourages (because it requires) abject superficiality of thought. Many just play on their phones all day and never open a book or really think. Now, I expect this picture is at least slightly hyperbolic. Otherwise, so many wouldn’t travel to China and enjoy it, and especially enough to stay. But I’ve never really heard anyone go on about China’s good points, especially (but not excluding others) those in opposition to the picture I’ve had painted. Would anyone be willing to fill in this picture with some brighter colors?
